HOOPP property wins prestigious REX award
On March 4, 2010 NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, held its annual Real Estate Excellence (REX) awards gala. The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is a majority investor in the 25 York Street property that won the award for office development of the year.
"We and our partners in the project, Halcyon Real Estate Partners and Menkes Developments, were delighted to be so recognized by our peers in the industry," says Michael Catford, HOOPP's Vice-President, Real Estate.
The property at 25 York Street in downtown Toronto, also referred to as the Telus Tower, opened its doors on Nov. 25, 2009. The building is one of HOOPP's largest real estate holdings and HOOPP's largest office development to date.
The 30-floor office building offers 780,000 square feet of space and like all newly constructed buildings that HOOPP invests in, the 25 York Street building meets the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold standards, which far exceeds the standards required for certification.
HOOPP's real estate portfolio is one of the largest in the country and delivered a strong return of 10.23 per cent in 2008.
