Privacy a Key Concern as New System is Fully Implemented
We take protecting our members’ privacy very seriously at HOOPP.
When we introduced our new privacy guidelines back in 2006, we had just begun the process of transitioning to a new pension administration system.
As changes were implemented with this new system – such as the new member annual statements produced earlier this year – certain pieces of information that were previously available to you as the member’s employer were deemed private unless the member agreed that the information could be shared.
In particular, the following information will be sent directly to members and can only be shared with you at the member’s discretion:
- pension estimates (member must sign Employer Request for Pension Estimates)
- buyback estimates
- prior earnings
- service with past HOOPP employers
- reciprocal or PBA transfers into HOOPP
- earnings or other information at other current HOOPP employers
- spouse or beneficiary information
HOOPP can only release this information to you if you provide us with a signed letter from the member authorizing us to do so. However, remember that the member, if willing, can give you this information directly.
If you have any questions about our privacy guidelines, we encourage you to review them on hoopp.com or to contact our Privacy Officer, David Miller, at privacy@hoopp.com.
