If You Don't Contribute For a Leave

If you don't make contributions for a leave, or purchase the service later, you will not accrue any benefits in the Plan for this period.

If you do not contribute while on a leave or within six months of your return to work, you can usually purchase the service related to the leave later under HOOPP's past service purchase provision. The exception is health leaves, if you do not contribute for a health leave, or top up your contributions during a health leave, you cannot purchase this service later.

It's important to realize that your employer does not contribute to the cost of a past service purchase. That's one of the reasons why it usually costs more to build service with a past service purchase.
