Pension Leave Limits
Under the Income Tax Act, there's a five-year lifetime limit on the amount of pension service you can build if you contribute when away from work on leave or during a temporary period of reduced earnings.
Limits for pregnancy/parental leaves
A member may also build up to three years of service during pregnancy/parental leaves.
If you use up the three-year pregnancy/parental limit, and apply to contribute for another pregnancy/parental leave, you can apply the time against the five-year limit.
What happens if you reach the limit?
Should the limit be reached while you are making contributions to HOOPP, any overcontributions will be refunded to you via your employer and your contributory service will be adjusted.
