HOOPP, designed for you, here for you
The features and benefits of HOOPP are designed with you, the Ontario healthcare worker in mind. Here are some examples:
- HOOPP annualizes the earnings of members who work part time – this means for pension purposes, your contributory service reflects your actual hours worked, but your earnings are treated as if you worked full time
- you can contribute for many types of leaves – you can build your pension as if you were working while on a pregnancy or parental leave or sabbatical
- enjoy generous early retirement provisions
- receive a bridge benefit if you retire early
Staying in tune with Ontario’s healthcare environment is an important part of achieving our mandate of delivering the pension promise. Among the recent changes are the:
- emergence of Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), which will see the co-ordination of health services move to a community-based system
- development of 150 Family Health Teams, intended to provide “one stop shopping” for patients with a focus on caring with/preventing chronic diseases while promoting better health
- province is placing more emphasis than ever on health promotion, and as well, alternative service delivery models, such as “e-health” – medical consultation via the Internet
HOOPP has already responded to many of these changes. For example, all of the new LHINs participate in HOOPP.
We’re taking steps to ensure that members can continue to belong to HOOPP, even as their employment relationships change. And we are reaching out to new organizations, to ensure they understand the value of offering HOOPP to their employees.
We continue to monitor changes in the healthcare environment, keeping an eye on developments and trends that could impact you – our members, pensioners and employers. If you have questions about the impact of specific restructuring on your pension contact us at info@hoopp.com or by mail.
As the healthcare environment changes, it’s important to remember that HOOPP is here for you – a valuable pension benefit you can count on in these changing times. After all, we’ve been providing pension services to healthcare employees since 1960.
