Answers to Your Questions about Annual Statements
In 2007, HOOPP's member annual statements were produced for the first time using our new pension administration system. Research shows the majority of members liked the new, personalized format of the statements.
We've been receiving questions from members about the new statements. Here are answers to a few we've received recently.
Q. What's the purpose of the member annual statement?
A. Your statement provides a snapshot of your benefits as of Dec. 31 of the previous year. It shows the benefits you have earned so far, and provides projections of the pension you can expect to receive if you continue to contribute to HOOPP until retirement.
Q. I have a spouse, but my statement talks about benefits for non-spouse beneficiaries. Why?
A. If HOOPP doesn't have the name of your spouse on record, you'll receive the "single" version of the statement. Let us know your spouse's name by sending us a Beneficiary Designation Form. Use the same form to let us know the names of your non-spouse beneficiaries.
Q. I live in the country – does HOOPP mail to my rural route address?
A. No, we can only mail to a street address – your "911 address – and not to a rural route. Please be sure your employer has this information for next year's statement because your employer sends us an updated address file each year.
Q. It's 2008 – is my annual statement for 2008 ready?
A. The statement you will receive in 2008 will be your 2007 statement, showing your benefits as of Dec. 31, 2007. In order to produce your statement, HOOPP has to first gather earnings and service information from all our employers, validate and verify the data, post it to our system, and then start sending the statements. We also have to gather address information from your employer as well.
