Work part time and build a lifetime pension
You don't need to be working full time to build a valuable pension. As someone who works part time, you can join right away if your employer waives the qualification requirement, or join in the year following a year in which you:
- worked at least 700 hours
- earned at least 35 per cent of the year's maximum pensionable earnings (YMPE)
In 2009, the YMPE was $46,300. Therefore, to join in 2010, you need to have earned $16,205 (35 per cent of $46,300) in 2009. You can also add together your hours or earnings from more than one HOOPP employer.
Remember, your employer contributes $1.26 for every dollar you put in, more than doubling the contributions. Start building your lifetime pension today. Rose Marie Forbes says: "I am so very thankful that my retirement is in the hands of HOOPP because I am confident that my financial future is safe and well managed. My HOOPP pension allows me to truly enjoy my retirement."
If you, or someone you know is working part-time, find out more about HOOPP from your employer's Human Resources department, or contact us directly.
