Death After Retirement With a Spouse
The surviving qualifying spouse of a HOOPP pensioner is automatically entitled to a lifetime pension equal to 60 per cent of what the member received, excluding any early retirement benefits.
Optional spousal pensions
The member has the option at retirement of increasing that pension to 80 or 100 per cent of the lifetime pension the member will receive, subject to an actuarial reduction based upon the age of the member and the spouse at retirement. Again, that pension will not include any early retirement benefits. To read more about the forms of pension, refer to our Three Levels of Protection page.
