Annual Statement FAQs
Read through the list below, to be directed to answers to common member annual statement questions.
Q. Can I get my member annual statement online?
A. This is a service HOOPP is working towards providing in English and in French, but it is not currently available.
However, you can use the pension calculator, along with your statement, to get estimates of your pension for dates other than those shown on your statement.
Q. Why don't I get my statement earlier?
A. HOOPP collects data from employers annually, a process that cannot begin until after year end. That data then has to be reviewed and verified. This process can be time-consuming. That's why the legislated deadline for plans like HOOPP to provide member annual statements is June 30.
Q. Why did I get a 2007 statement in 2008? Is there a more recent statement?
A. Your 2007 HOOPP Annual Statement is the most recent one. It provides a snapshot of your benefits as of year end 2007. Be sure to keep your statement in a safe place until the next one arrives. Your 2008 member annual statement will arrive in 2009.
Q. Why is there is an incorrect beneficiary listed on my 2006 member annual statement?
A. HOOPP has received questions from members whose 2006 member annual statement shows a former beneficiary, rather than their most current designation. HOOPP is aware of the situation and is working to fix member records for future statements.
Q. Does this error mean HOOPP doesn't know who to pay if I die?
A. No. Please be assured that HOOPP's records on your spouse and/or "non-spouse" beneficiary choice are up to date. We keep a copy of every Beneficiary Change Form and letter you send us and attach it to your file. In addition, whenever a benefit is to be paid upon a member's death, HOOPP reviews the spouse and non-spouse beneficiary designations on the member's file before issuing a payment.
Q. What is HOOPP doing to make sure all updated beneficiary information appears on future statements?
A. We have been able to identify all the cases where an obsolete beneficiary's name appeared on statements. We are working to ensure that the correct beneficiary will be shown on future annual statements.
Q. I recently divorced, how can I get my former spouse's name off my statement?
A. Contact HOOPP for instructions on how to do this. Even if you don't remove your ex-spouse's name from your record, don't worry. Before HOOPP pays benefits to the spouses of members, we confirm that the person listed on file is indeed still the member's spouse, and eligible to receive benefits.
Q. What's meant by a "non-spouse" beneficiary?
A. Your qualifying spouse — if you have one — is automatically first in line for any benefits payable upon your death. The secondary "non-spouse" beneficiary is the person, persons, or organization that you want to receive any death benefits payable after both you and (if applicable) your spouse have died.
Q. How come some Plan members at our organization have received their annual statements, and others have not?
A. Because HOOPP is sending member annual statements directly, by mail, to most members' homes, we are not printing statements in batches by employer as was done in past years. As soon as a statement is ready – all earnings and contribution info received and finalized – it goes into the next print batch. Batches are printed each week and then distributed by mail.
