The Manager, IT Infrastructure, working under the direction of the Director, IT Operations is responsible for planning, organising, and managing of staff to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimising key functional areas, particularly network infrastructure, server infrastructure, and data communications. The Infrastructure Manager will also schedule and direct activities to resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
Duties & responsibilities
- Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements
- Manage computing facilities, provide and oversee second and third level support of infrastructure issues
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training for infrastructure administration and project management. Manage internal infrastructure improvement projects
- Manage staff by ensuring that they possess the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to perform their function by setting and implementing individual development plans and conducting regular coaching/mentoring sessions
- Lead by example by demonstrating core values of being results oriented, professional, client focussed, and teamwork oriented
- Define hardware and software standards in conjunction with owners and stakeholders
- Test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network infrastructure
- Test server performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining server infrastructure
- Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality/user base
- Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement and development efforts
- Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure infrastructure-specific products and services
- Assist with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures
- Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation
- Maintain and enhance IT Disaster Recovery Plan
Qualifications
- University degree in Computer Science or Community College diploma and/or a combination of equivalent training, education and experience
- 7 to 10 years Information Technology experience including minimum 3 years in a management role
- At least 5 years of Wintel/CISCO environment
- Experience with HP Servers and storage (SAN & iSCSI)
- ITIL Certification or equivalent work experience
- Project Management experience
- Experience in overseeing or managing an Infrastructure Group
- Experience in vendor management, contract negotiations, procurement and dealing with outsourcers/co-sourcers
- Experience in managing complex technology platform
- In depth knowledge of the IT industry in terms of emerging and enabling technologies
- Experience with investment and pension or related applications and systems
- Leadership in providing full range of infrastructure solutions to business units and is accountable for client satisfaction
- Ability to deal with wide range of constituency/stakeholders
- Ability to deal with conflicting issues and stakeholders with conflicting priorities
- Must be a self starter with the ability to work in a cross functional team environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong people management and leadership skills
- Skills in directing and motivating technical and non-technical staff
- Strong negotiator, contract and relationship manager for a variety of service providers
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
