HOOPP is governed by
an independent Board of Trustees made up of 16 voting members.
Eight trustees are appointed by the Ontario Hospital Association
and eight by four major unions representing the majority of Plan
members, including the:
- Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA)
- Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
- Ontario Public Service Employees’ Union (OPSEU)
- Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
The Board is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Plan
and the HOOPP Trust Fund. Among its many duties, the Board:
- sets contribution levels
- establishes investment policy
- monitors investment performance
- approves annual operating budgets
In carrying out their duties, Trustees are required – by
law – to act in the best interests of Plan beneficiaries
as a whole. And, in keeping with best practices, HOOPP’s
Board conducts an annual review of its approach to governance.
Day-to-day responsibility for the overall leadership and management
of the Plan, including the Trust Fund, has been delegated to HOOPP’s
President & CEO.
