Family Changes

There is nothing so constant as change. When you experience a personal change, it’s a good idea to let HOOPP know.

Getting married

If you wish to change your name, please use a Member Change of Information form.

For details on adding a spouse, visit the Beneficiary Changes page.

A new spouse added after you retire may also qualify to receive HOOPP spousal benefits, provided certain conditions are met.

Pregnancy and parental leaves

You can make HOOPP contributions while you’re away on pregnancy or parental leave, either during the leave or as a lump sum no later than six months from the end of the leave.

You do not need your employer’s approval to make contributions, and your contributions will be matched by your employer at the usual rate. Contributions must be based on your earnings level immediately before your leave begins. For part-timers working a scheduled shift, contributions will be based on your usual scheduled hours.

You may also choose to update your beneficiary designations once you have a baby.

Relationship breakdown

If your marriage or common-law relationship is ending, please visit our Relationship Breakdown page.

If you are changing your name as a result, please use a Member Change of Information form.
