Residual Death Benefits
Benefits payable once you and your spouse have died
Any HOOPP benefits remaining after both you and your qualifying spouse have died will be paid to your secondary beneficiary.
The death benefit payable to the secondary beneficiary equals:
- contributions you have made to the Plan, plus interest
- any past service purchase payments you made, and
- any eligible funds used to provide additional pension
MINUS
- all pension payments received by both you and your qualifying spouse, not including transition benefit payments
If a death benefit is payable, it will be paid to your secondary beneficiary as a lump sum.
