Early Retirement Benefits

You'll continue to receive your basic pension from HOOPP for as long as you live.

But if you're under age 65, you may be receiving early retirement benefits that end when you turn 65.

Bridge & transition benefits

The early retirement benefits – the bridge benefit and the transition benefit – are paid together with basic lifetime pension to qualifying HOOPP pensioners every month.

Both of these benefits are designed to supplement HOOPP's basic lifetime pension until age 65, when government pensions are scheduled to begin.

While the bridge benefit has been a permanent Plan feature for many years, the transition benefit is a temporary Plan improvement. Effective Dec. 31, 2005, no new members can qualify to receive this benefit.

Starting CPP before 65?

Starting your Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefit before age 65 has no effect on the payment of your HOOPP benefits. (CPP pensions can begin on a reduced basis at age 60.)
