Survivor Benefits
You'll receive your HOOPP pension for the rest of your life. And in many cases, HOOPP can also provide for your qualifying spouse or non-spouse beneficiary upon your death.
The survivor benefits payable upon your death depend on the options you selected at retirement.
HOOPP has improved its benefits over the years, but improvements have not always been retroactive. So different rules apply for different retirement dates. Since there are so many different sets of rules, it’s best to contact HOOPP to be reminded of the choices you made when you retired.
There are some general survivor benefit rules that apply to your non-spouse beneficiary matter when you retired.
Post-retirement spouse option
If you acquire a new spouse after retirement, you may be able to provide him or her with a HOOPP spousal pension – at your expense. Find out more about this option.
Shortened life expectancy
If you are a pensioner or deferred pensioner facing a shortened life expectancy, you may be able to withdraw your HOOPP pension benefits in one lump-sum payment.
