About Equity, diversity and inclusion

Empowering people to bring their whole selves to work

At HOOPP, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is integral to cultivating a positive culture, while enabling us to attract and retain talented people who reflect the diversity of our communities we serve. To support this, we endeavour to foster a workplace where everyone feels respected, accepted and connected so people can be themselves. When our people thrive, it supports our long-term success and strengthens our ability to deliver on our pension promise to members.

Through intentional action, proactive commitment and continuous improvement, we are working to integrate EDI into all that we do. We remain committed to learning, evolving and identifying ways to strengthen our workplace as part of this ongoing journey.

We also believe that every HOOPP employee plays an important role in building an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace. Together, we strive to create equity of opportunity by treating individuals fairly, recognizing and valuing differences, and removing barriers so everyone can succeed.

How HOOPP is taking action

In 2021, HOOPP launched our five-year EDI strategy focused on strengthening our culture, work environment and business processes. We continue to build on this progress by integrating EDI more deeply into how we attract talent, develop our people, make decisions and serve our stakeholders.

Looking ahead

Building on our strong foundation, we are now evolving our approach to reflect new priorities, insights and opportunities to further integrate EDI into everything we do. We will continue embedding EDI into our programs and processes to better understand structural barriers that may exist, work to eliminate them, and create a more consistent employee experience across our organization.

Empowering and connecting employees

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are central to EDI at HOOPP. They promote a safe, inclusive space where employees can build communities around shared experiences and interests. Each ERG includes members of our Executive Team, co-chairs, employees and allies who help empower, educate, connect and celebrate HOOPP’s diverse workplace.

Our ERGs bring employees together by creating and sharing educational resources, organizing events and guest speakers, supporting growth and development opportunities, and building internal and community partnerships.

Black Leaders Advancing Change and Knowledge

Black Leaders Advancing Change and Knowledge (BLACK) promotes equity of opportunity in the workplace by working to eliminate bias, reduce the impacts of systemic racism and promote awareness around issues that impact Black people.

Making HERstory

Making HERstory fosters a supportive and inclusive culture for women and their allies at HOOPP, raising awareness about issues that are unique to women in the workplace, promoting gender equity for women and sharing experiences.

Out and Proud

Out and Proud supports equity for 2SLGBTQ+ employees by elevating their voices, raising awareness of important issues, and promoting a safe, inclusive and thriving space. 

Multicultural Association of Pluralist Ethos

Multicultural Association of Pluralist Ethos (MAPLE) demonstrates multicultural diversity and inclusivity by promoting workplace cultural fluency and supporting professional growth opportunities for all.

Culture Champions celebrates, protects and grows HOOPP’s evolving culture and work environment in support of our organization’s core values.
